Amy & Eddy

April 2017 | Norwood Park

Alice in Wonderland meets stately elegance in this wonderfully whimsical day

From the very start, the wedding of Eddy and Amy Redfern was going to be a day with a difference.
With an Alice In Wonderland theme and a stately home setting, the wedding was about as far removed from tradition as possible.

The couple, who live in Sutton-in- Ashfield, were married in April 2017 and not only opted for a civil service at one of Nottinghamshire’s greatest houses, Norwood Park on the outskirts of Southwell, but they also wrote their own vows, had a wedding cake made of cheese and enjoyed the tranquil sounds of music from a harpist.

Amy said: “We are both only 26 years-old and wanted a service which was fun and relaxed. The registrar commented on what a laid back couple we were. Everyone expected us to have a traditional wedding and were surprised at how different the day actually was.’’

Eddy and Amy met through friends in 2011 and got engaged on Christmas Day in 2014. Straight away they decided on an Alice In Wonderland theme for their big day but decided not to rush the planning but to take their time and do things in their own distinctive way.

For the wedding service the bride, who works part-time as a care assistant, wore a blush coloured gown with a sweetheart neckline and fishtail hemline. Her tied bouquet included mixed flowers in shades of pale blue and peach.

Her two bridesmaids wore light powder blue dresses and carried peach flowers, all in keeping with the Alice colour theme. The couple’s daughter Harriet, aged three, was a flower girl and wore an ivory dress with peach/gold shoes and carried a fairy wand.

After the service, the couple used golf buggies to travel to the lake for some wedding photography to help capture those essential special memories.
Eddy, who works as an electrical contract manager, and Amy were very lucky as they picked a lovely sunny spring day, always a bonus with wedding photography.

Later, over 60 day guests sat down to a three-course wedding breakfast in a beautifully decorated reception room done by Eddy and Amy, which included cup cake favours on the table, bunting, heart confetti, Alice In Wonderland cut-outs, giant playing cards and much more referencing the popular story.

More guests arrived for an evening party, which continued until the early hours and included a disco, photo booth and games for the younger wedding guests.
Amy said: “We had a fabulous day, everything went to plan. I really loved all the planning stages with the Alice theme and making all the name cards, seating plan and table centre pieces. All our guests said what a lovely day they had and that they enjoyed the wedding which was certainly different to the norm.

“We were very pleased with our choice of venue, everyone was very professional. A friend of mine told me about Norwood Park and I’m so pleased we booked it for our special day.
“Looking back on the day, I think our guests were most surprised at the vows we had written because we’re not normally a lovey-dovey couple. We just enjoyed sharing our day with all our family and friends around us. It was a very special day.’’

Eddy and Amy delayed their honeymoon until September when they will enjoy a 14-night Royal Caribbean Cruise around the Mediterranean.
