COVID-19: Your Wedding Questions Answered

As this lockdown shows no signs of stopping, we asked several wedding suppliers from the industry how its affecting them and the steps they’re taking to support couples who are potentially having to move their wedding date.

This week we asked Adele at Blue Lights Photography how she’d been affected and the questions that couples have been asking her.

 

Q: How have you been affected and what steps are you taking to remain in business?

Like most photographers, I have been affected by the lockdown due to the majority of my couples postponing until 2021, all Weddings booked currently up until mid-July have re-arranged. No only this but I also photograph Newborns, Children & Families so all of my shooting work has stopped.

However, I am still taking bookings for 2021 Weddings onwards, I have made a Wedding Pack to send out to all interested people, and I am planning a few blogs, Q&A’s etc. I have been in business for 10-years and I love my job so my plan is to ride this out and help my couples as much as I can.

Questions from couples

Q: If I have to cancel my wedding, what will you do?  
A lot of my couples are not cancelling but postponing to a new date. If you know that your original date is going to be affected by the current pandemic, or social distancing then my advice would be to contact your suppliers about a tentative move with some idea of dates. I’ve personally managed to successfully move over all of my current booked Weddings to new dates. These Weddings have been moved over, with no additional costs.

Q: Will my deposit be carried over to a new date?
Yes. I am carrying over all booking fees made to a new date. Everything is remaining the same it is just being moved in the diary.

Q: What if you’re not available on my new date? Is someone else available?
This is something that I would discuss with each couple. It is possible to use an associate shooter (which is someone who shoots the wedding but I would still edit/albums etc) or there is the discussion of whether or not the couple would prefer to book someone else completely. Having discussions about dates and moving your Wedding with your suppliers before confirming things with the venue should hopefully help give you ideas of who can and cannot do the new dates.

Q: Do I still have to pay you if my wedding is cancelled?
If your Wedding is being cancelled fully, and not postponed then most suppliers will have cancellation policies in their contracts. Wedding insurance may help if you are having to cancel your Wedding fully. I take cancellations on a case-by-case basis.

Q: Will I get my money back if you can’t do my new date?
If we have tried everything possible and I am unable to book your new date, then it is something that I will be taking on a case by case basis. Under normal circumstances booking fee’s are non-refundable, however we are not currently in normal circumstances.
