Jenny & Daniel
October 2020 | Dimple Well Lodge Hotel
Nothing would stop Jenny and Daniel from getting married, not even a global pandemic.
The couple from Wakefield, originally met when they were 15 at a youth theatre group and became fast friends. It was not meant to be, however, as although they had feelings for each other, they were never both single at the same time.
Fast forward to 2017 with the pair living round the corner from each other; a spark was reignited and Jenny and Daniel began their relationship.
Then in April 2019 on a city break to Paris, Daniel popped the question on a walk around the gardens at the Palace of Versailles.
‘He practically ran around the Palace and then suggested going for a walk in the gardens. At this point, I was getting frustrated because I didn’t realise he was nervous, so I just thought he was stroppy.’
It was on a walk to the Lake of the Swiss Guard where Daniel plucked up his courage and asked Jenny to take a picture of the lake. As she turned round, seeing Daniel on one knee, Jenny first thought he’d fallen over. Then spotting the ring box, she realised as Daniel proposed and of course, the answer was yes!
The original wedding date was May 2020 with 90 day guests and 120 evening guests. However, with restrictions being imposed in March, the couple’s wedding date was rescheduled to October 2020.
September came and Jenny & Daniel were making final preparations for the big day. They’d already cut the guest list to 30 to adhere to government guidelines, which was stressful in itself.
Then 10 days before the wedding, more restrictions were announced and the couple were faced with cutting their guest list again to just 15 people.
‘As the venue and suppliers had limited dates due to so many postponing, and the fact that we just wanted to be married, we decided to go ahead with 15 people’.
The big day came and the Jenny & Daniel were married at Dimple Well Lodge Hotel in Ossett.
A colour scheme of Navy blue with sunflowers set the atmosphere for what would be an intimate and romantic wedding day.
‘The venue took care of all my decorations, so all I had to sort was the flowers’. Jenny opted for artificial bouquets so her and her bridesmaids could keep them as a memento.
Backed by 4 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen, together with their immediate families, Jenny & Daniel said their ‘I Do’s’.
‘There were a lot of close family that couldn’t be with us due to the number of restrictions. We are both from very big families, so as much as we loved our day, we definitely noticed some of the missing people’.
The newly married couple plan to have a wedding reception at a later date, so all their guests can celebrate together with them properly.
Looking back on their day, Jenny & Daniel agree that it was a much more relaxed affair that the original wedding would have been.
‘We got to spend time with all our guests and even got to spend time with each other, which other couples have said is rare on the wedding day!’
A funny moment occurred when the couple were having their photos taken. Jenny’s sister in law slipped and fell on the wet grass; ‘she was laughing so much, she struggled to get up’, but thankfully the maid of honour came to the rescue and took her off to get cleaned up.
When asked what advice they’d give to other couple getting married, here’s what Jenny & Daniel said:
‘If you don’t want to wait, then you can still have an amazing day with the restrictions in place. My venue and suppliers bent over backwards to make sure we still had the best day, and it didn’t feel like a COVID wedding.’
‘As no one knows when the restrictions are lifted, I would encourage people to go ahead with the small intimate weddings. All the people we weren’t able to have at the wedding completely understood and were all so supportive of our decision to go ahead with reduced numbers.‘
‘I think the wedding industry has taken one of the hardest hits in the pandemic, and we need to support all the venues and suppliers to be able to get back on their feet, and keep running despite the tight restrictions in place’.
We wish Jenny & Daniel a huge congratulations on their special day and couldn’t agree more that the wedding industry needs support now more than ever.
So support your small local wedding suppliers wherever you can and let’s help them get through this.
