Ollie & Emma
June 2019 | Kelham Island Museum
A picture-perfect beachfront proposal in Cyprus was followed by a truly ‘Made in Sheffield’ wedding for Ollie & Emma Carlisle.
The couple, from Sheffield, started the planning process as soon as they got engaged in October 2017 and looked at several venues before they spotted Kelham Island Museum. They loved it because it was unusual and quirky and also fit with their theme around things made in Sheffield.
The couple really enjoyed the planning process and loved going to wedding fayres and talking to each other about their plans. It was a real family affair with Emma’s mum drying out rose petals for an entire year to use as confetti and dad helping with the décor by painting glass jars.
On the morning of the wedding, Ollie, his best man and dad all did the local park run whilst it was pouring down with rain. Emma had bought them all matching running t-shirts with their wedding date on and they got a lot of congratulations by the time they finished their 5k.
They had their wedding ceremony at St Augustines Church in Sheffield, which was also where Emma’s parents got married, and where Emma was baptised, so it held special significance.
Emma wore a bespoke designed dress by Kelly of KMR Bridal after shopping for dresses and being unable to find exactly what she wanted. Emma met Kelly at a wedding fayre and as it turned out, they lived around the corner from each other, so consultations were easy.
‘Kelly is really good at what she does and very good at putting people at ease. Our meetings were more like a conversation with a friend’.
Emma’s dress was an ivory fit and flare style gown in silk crepe material with a long back train and boat neck design. The gown also had detachable sleeves for an ideal day to night look.
Emma carried a neutral bridal bouquet, with ivory, green and blush pink colours throughout.
The couples’ stand out moment on their wedding day was seeing all their guests together, with some travelling from far afield to celebrate their marriage.
After the ceremony, it was time for the reception at Kelham Island Museum; with staff even getting the old industrial steam engine running for a few minutes, which was a real talking point among the guests.
Wedding guests were treated to canapes of scotch eggs with Hendersons relish and traditional pies made in Sheffield of course.
Ollie & Emma chose PJ Tastes as their caterers as they were big on home grown local produce, which fit perfectly with their theme.
They even had mini bottles of Hendersons relish to give to their guests as wedding favours!
As part of the décor, Ollie & Emma’s table names were all Sheffield bands too, with the likes of Def Leppard and PULP gracing the table plan.
The couple had a live singer called David Ford, (Ollie is a huge fan) who is based in Eastbourne and agreed to make the trip for Ollie and Emma’s wedding. Emma said, ‘I swear Ollie has single-handedly supported his career!’.
The couple had a wonderful wedding day and said they loved working with all the suppliers to help create it.
They honeymooned for 4 days in Las Vegas, followed by 2 weeks in Hawaii. Whilst in Hawaii, Emma forced Ollie to wake up at 2:30am to drive up to the top of Mount Haleakala in Maui, so they could watch the sunrise together. As they got there, they witnessed a shooting star right at the top of the volcano just before the most perfect sunrise.
Ollie’s Tip for couples getting married: Get your guests to take loads of photos. Stu took wonderful photos of us, but I wished I’d asked family and friends to more informal snaps of things going on with other guests. You can never have too many pictures.
Emma’s Tip for couples getting married: In the planning stage, try not to get too overwhelmed. Take a step back and don’t let yourself get too wound up and stressed. It’s your day and you should do it how you want.
