Tara & Mark
April 2017 | Ringwood Hall Hotel Brimington
Love blossomed in the workplace for Derbyshire couple Mark and Tara Bates who were married at Easter this year at the 19th Century manor house Ringwood Hall Hotel.
Mark was working as a chef in a specialised dementia care home and Tara was a care assistant. After a chance meeting when Mark offered Tara a lift home from work, they discovered they lived five minutes away from each other and their children went to the same school.Tara said: “At first I didn’t really like Mark, I thought he was a wannabe Gordon Ramsey. Getting to know Mark was the best thing I ever did and it really is true that you should never judge a book by its cover.’’
The couple, who live in Brimington, fell in love with their hotel venue from the minute they walked in and are full of praise for the Ringwood staff who made them feel as if they were the only people in the world on their special day.
In front of their family and friends, they tied the knot in a civil ceremony and then sat down to a three-course wedding breakfast, followed by an evening party with more guests.
For her big day Tara chose’ a wedding dress she never expected to like.
“When I first saw the dress it was everything I said I didn’t want. I tried on countless dresses and was certain about the style I didn’t like. However when I tried it on, I didn’t want to take it off.’’
Her ivory gown had a sweetheart neckline and a fishtail hemline and she carried a bouquet of ivory and pink flowers she made herself – along with the bridesmaids flowers, buttonholes and corsages.
Tara’s bridesmaids wore navy gowns and the flower girl, daughter Alyscia wore an ivory Princess style dress. Pageboys were Tara’s son Hayden and Mark’s son Aaron.
Before the wedding, Tara was extremely busy, also making wedding invitations, table numbers, colouring books for the children etc. On the day itself she styled the bridesmaids and flower girl’s hair.
Unfortunately the weather on the day was very mixed with some rain, sunshine and cloud but the couple’s wedding photographer still managed to capture a range of magical moments.
Tara’s advice to other brides is to enjoy every single moment of the day.
“Our day was absolutely perfect, the best day of our lives. Everything leading up to that moment and all the stress of planning was all worthwhile in the end. It was unforgettable,’’ she said.
For Tara, the best part of the day was walking up the aisle and seeing Mark waiting for her. For Mark too, it was a very special moment, much more emotional than what he expected.
Celebrations continued into the evening when guests enjoyed a hog roast buffet and disco.
Tara said: “The venue gave us everything we dreamed of…old and timeless along with a modern twist. The food was amazing and the staff went out of their way to personalise our special day. Lindon, our Master of Ceremonies was a real godsend and looked after us the whole day. Because it was the Easter weekend, we added a special touch of giving Easter eggs to every child at the wedding.’’
After the wedding, Tara and Mark enjoyed a week-long honeymoon to Paphos in Cyprus.
