A chance meet outside a Rock Bar let to a blossoming relationship with a shared love of music, food and dogs.
‘Rob had asked me if I wanted to take my dog for a walk…as a surprise I took along my nephew to which Rob then started acting a little strange and seemed nervous’.
Wentworth Woodhouse was where the couple went on their first walk together so the significance of this location was important.
Beth saw a banner advertising a wedding fair and joked about getting married to Rob who didn’t respond. As they made their way down to the lake, Rob called out to Beth and as she turned around, there he was on one knee asking her to marry him.
‘I did not hesitate and instantly said yes! The moment was filled with joy and my dog jumped up at us with love and my nephew came and gave us a cuddle’.
After the engagement, it didn’t take long for the couple to start planning their wedding.
Beth and Rob gave themselves 18 months to properly plan their special day and it was all pretty stress free apart from the table plan, which changed several times.
On Friday 6th September, the big day arrived. Beth, her mum and bridesmaids had stayed at the Burntwood Court Hotel the night before, so were up early having hair and makeup done.
Beth wore a stunning gown from Elite Bridal in Castleford and had a fresh flower bouquet from Pickering Florists (Barnsley) filled with red and white roses and diamanté brooches dotted throughout.
She also sung high praises of her wedding photographer for the day;
‘Victoria Reed my photographer was my super hero on my wedding day. If I ever messed with my dress or felt like I needed anything, that lady would be straight there and couldn’t recommend her enough’.
The sun was shining upon the hotel and the couple said their I Do’s with all their guests in attendance. A wedding meal followed with guests enjoying a tomato soup starter, Beef roast and cheesecake for dessert.
Beths’ mum Donna even had the clever idea of ordering aprons to keep their dresses clean during the meal!
‘A funny memory of the day was when one of our friends asked for a photo; we all went outside and were getting ready to take the picture, when a bee flew past our friend’s face. He waved his drink around thus throwing it down my wedding dress! Any Bridezilla would have been upset but because of how perfect the wedding day was, I was laughing along with them, despite my friend being super embarrassed!’.
Beth and Rob were also touched that their Labrador Marley got to be there for some of the wedding photos. ‘Marley is our pride and joy and the wedding just wouldn’t have been the same without having him there for a photo’.
Beth’s last lovely memory is on the morning of their wedding, Beth’s mum took her to the alter to show her a photo of her departed grandad. It was a very emotional moment between the pair remembering how Beth’s grandad would have loved to have been there for her special day.
When asked what advice they’d give other couples getting married, here’s what Beth and Rob said;
‘Remember when planning a wedding that the couple must be selfish. Weddings are such stressful ties and trying to plan the perfect wedding around everyone else is impossible. Remember who the wedding is about and the reason people are there to celebrate. As a couple you have one day together. Be selfish and be happy.’
Beth and Rob got married before the pandemic and before social distancing; let’s hope that weddings like this can go ahead again soon.
