We chatted to our cake experts to get the lowdown on wedding cakes, whether it’s what’s in, what couples are loving and what we can expect.
What's Trending
Our Expert: Alana, Wedding Cakes by Alana
We’re seeing some exciting trends emerge for wedding cakes.
Bows and pearls continue to be incredibly popular – think big statement bows and edible pearls either cascading all over or placed elegantly at the top. Couples are also choosing longer, horizontal cakes displayed on top tables rather than traditional tall tiers. Navy is the colour of the moment, whether as a full theme or subtle accents, though a classic white iced cake remains simple, elegant, and the perfect canvas for personal touches.
For flavours, Biscoff is having a real moment, alongside favourites like raspberry and white chocolate, fresh lemon, and cherry bakewell for something different. Cupcake towers are making a comeback with growing demand. While Lambeth-style cakes are less popular, single-tier heart Lambeth cakes remain a lovely choice for something sweet and romantic. Couples are playing with texture in their wedding cakes and even using spacer tiers featuring textured designs.

Dessert Tables
Our Expert: Toni, Red Velvet Bakery
Wedding cakes will always be a popular choice for couples, as the cake-cutting is a moment all brides and grooms want captured in their photos. However, dessert tables are becoming very popular as an alternative to the traditional cake. This option lets couples cater for a variety of dietary needs and offers a fabulous array of treats for guests, adding an interactive element to the reception.
Dessert tables can include cake, cupcakes, brownies, biscuits, macarons, and cake pops, so don’t be afraid to mix it up! Think sweet tapas. These fun dessert displays can be colour-coordinated to match the wedding theme and, when decorated, make a stunning centrepiece showcasing the couple’s style and personalities.

Styling Summer Cakes
Our Expert: Jo, Joanna Evans Cake Designs
With years of creating luxury wedding cakes through every season, summer cakes are some of my favourites—though they come with their own problems. Warm weather means couples lean toward lighter flavours, soft pastels, fresh florals, and textured designs. The biggest consideration is heat: buttercream softens, chocolate melts, and flowers don’t love humidity.
My top tips? Keep the cake in a cool, shaded spot, away from windows and direct sun, and choose heat-friendly finishes like ganache under fondant. If you want fresh flowers, choose hardy varieties and be ready to adjust timings—an earlier or later reveal works well, as the cake looks best when brought out just before guests enter. With good planning, your summer wedding cake will hold up beautifully, even on the hottest day.
