As the Mother of the Bride/Groom, it’s important to look the part when you’re performing your wedding day duties. To help, we’ve put together a selection of tips and tricks
when it comes to shopping for your wedding attire.
What Suits You?
When shopping, remember what fits you well and what you’re happiest wearing. If you’re not normally a bodycon dress wearer, don’t choose your child’s wedding day to go bold in something figure hugging! Not a fan of floral print? Then don’t wear it. Choose your outfit with comfort in mind and ensure you feel your best and are happy with your finished look. When you look in the mirror, you want to see yourself staring back at you, not a stranger. Your comfort and style are key.
Dress or Trouser Suit?
If you’re not one to wear a dress, there’s no rule book that says you can’t wear trousers on your child’s wedding day. A trouser suit can be elevated with accessories and shoes to make for the perfect wedding day look. If you’re a fashionista mum, you can really make a statement with a bold print trouser suit paired with your best heels.
Fabric Choice?
Depending on the time of year, the weather will impact your fabric choice for your child’s wedding day. As we live in the UK, the weather means our outfits have to be versatile and adapt as you go through the wedding day. Choose a fabric that cools if it’s a hot day and if you have sensitive skin, stay away from fabrics that could be itchy as this could cause added stress you just don’t need.
Will you Wear it Again?
Occasionwear for wedding days can be expensive; if you’re splashing out on a stunning outfit, think of other occasions you might wear it for, and how you might style it in an alternative way. This will help when choosing what to wear and makes for a more cost-effective purchase.
Shapewear
From our personal experience, the majority of wedding guests wear some form of shapewear; whether it’s to accentuate a curve or move something to where it’s supposed to be. If it makes you feel more confident, we say “you do you!”
When choosing shapewear, remember to choose something you can breathe in, as otherwise the second those canapes hit your stomach, you’ll be wanting to rip your shapewear off and throw it in a nearby bush!
Protect your Feet
You’re going to be on your feet for a lot of the day chatting to friends and family, so protecting your feet is key. Cushioned insoles are a life saver when you’re wearing heels all day. As an added tip, keep a spare pair of flats or even fluffy slippers under your table so you can swap them out when the pain gets too much. Guests will wish they’d thought of bringing comfier footwear when they see you floating round in your best slippers!
