Your wedding day is finally here, and whilst you’ve spent months planning every detail, these clever on-the-day hacks will help everything run even more smoothly.
Dress Protection 101
Brides, tuck tissues under your arms before getting into your dress to protect it from deodorant marks and perspiration until just before the ceremony. It’s a simple trick that keeps your gown pristine during those nerve-wracking getting-ready moments.
Emergency Kit
Delegate an emergency kit to your maid of honour/ best man containing makeup for touch-ups, blotting papers to keep shine at bay in photos, baby wipes, a mini sewing kit,
safety pins, plasters, painkillers, and mints. If either of you wear contact lenses, pack spares and solution – all those wiping tears could pop your lense out!
Shoe Prep
Break in your wedding shoes weeks before the big day to avoid painful blisters. For outdoor photos, slip heel protectors onto your shoes to prevent sinking into grass or gravel. Your feet will thank you during those golden hour shots.
Bouquet Placement
Hold your bouquet lower than you think (bellybutton height). It naturally opens your posture, elongates your torso, and looks far more flattering in photos than holding it high.
Tie Tip
Practice tying your tie or bow tie several times before the wedding day. There’s nothing worse than fumbling with a Windsor knot when you’re already running late. Better yet, have a backup clip-on tie just in case.
Hydration
Stay hydrated throughout the day, especially during summer weddings. Keep water bottles nearby and use drinking straws to sip between photos – brides, this keeps your lipstick perfectly intact whilst ensuring you don’t feel faint during the ceremony or photos.
Stay Comfortable
Empty your pockets of wallets, phones, and keys before the ceremony – bulky items create unflattering lines in photos and can be uncomfortable during your vows. Ask your best man to keep these safe.
Phone Guardian
Speaking of phones, designate a trusted friend to monitor your devices and respond to any urgent messages throughout the day. This way you can stay fully present and soak in every moment without worrying about who’s trying to reach you.
Eat your Food
This sounds obvious, but it’s easy to miss! Designate someone to save you plates of canapés and food during the reception when you’re caught up with photos or greeting guests. You’ve paid for that delicious meal, and you’ll need the energy for dancing later.
Take a Moment
Finally, steal five minutes alone together as newlyweds. Step outside, take a breath, and soak in the moment – it goes by faster than you think. These few quiet minutes help you reconnect amid the whirlwind.
