Pauline & Barrington found love & tied the knot in gorgeous Jersey on 2nd June 2023.

In a beautiful destination wedding on June 2nd, 2023, Pauline Hanson Gilman and Barrington Hall celebrated their love in a stunning ceremony at L’Horizon Beach Spa & Hotel in Jersey, creating a day as unique and remarkable as their journey together.
Their Love Story
Pauline and Barrington had known of each other for years, as their parents knew each other. Following a chance encounter on Facebook where Pauline recognised Barrington, the pair had their romantic reconnection happen unexpectedly in November 2015, seven months after Pauline’s father passed away. Despite initial hesitation, they began chatting regularly, with Barrington eventually visiting Pauline in Huddersfield during Easter 2016.
Their relationship blossomed quickly, with Barrington commuting between Oxford and Huddersfield on weekends. By 2017, they made the significant decision for Barrington to move back to Huddersfield, leaving his beloved job at Oxford University to build a life together.
During their time together, Pauline endured a brave battle with cancer with Barrington there to support her.
She remembers saying, ‘If you are going to give me pity, walk away. However, if you are wanting to give me love, Then Hello!’
The Proposal
On Barrington’s 60th birthday in January 2022, he proposed at a local restaurant, with two of Pauline’s sons in presence. Barrington produced a vintage emerald and diamond ring to Pauline, with the restaurant erupting in applause as she said yes.
Wedding Planning
In April 2022, Pauline and Barrington began their wedding planning, approaching it methodically. They attended wedding events like the I Do Magazine shows in Leeds and Doncaster; both were amazing.

The couple were super organised with spreadsheets and kept their wedding guests updated throughout the planning process; ‘sometimes it was slightly stressful, and it seemed to consume us, but we battled on’, Pauline says.

When asked about any problems they faced during the planning, the couple mentioned that it was hard to have a visual with it being a destination wedding. You couldn’t exactly pop to the venue to refresh your memory. However the wedding team at the L’Horizon Beach Spa & Hotel couldn’t do enough for Pauline and Barrington.
The Destination Wedding
Choosing Jersey was inspired by Pauline’s best friend, who suggested finding a spectacular venue in a great location. The L’Horizon Beach Spa & Hotel, with its breathtaking sea views and beautiful beach, captured their hearts instantly.
‘I fell in love with it straight away and when Barrington came home from work, I showed it to him. His initial reaction was Jersey why Jersey? As soon as he saw it all it had to offer, the beautiful breathtaking panoramic sea view and beautiful clean beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, he agreed it was where we should get married’, Pauline says.

Wedding Day Highlights
There wasn’t one particular favourite moment of the day as it was all spectacular’, Barrington says. The happy couple were blessed with clear blue skies and sunshine as she said their I Do’s against the serene backdrop.

Barrington arranged for the couple to have a cellist and violinist to entertain guests while they waited for Pauline to arrive. ‘They played my entrance song so beautifully as I walked down, I felt like a queen going to meet her king’.
Pauline wore a vintage ivory two-piece Maggie Sottero Couture gown with beading throughout the design, while Barrington donned a dapper dark green three-piece suit.

Wedding rings were bespoke made from the couple’s favourite jewellers, Walker Jewellers in Huddersfield.
Following the ceremony, guests enjoyed delicious canapes and a celebratory drink while photographer Stefanie Rive took the happy couple to some amazing locations in St Brelade Bay for their wedding photos.

The wedding was a vibrant celebration of love, with some particularly memorable moments.
The wedding party entrance was to an afrobeat tune Saw Sawa Sawle by Flavour and all the guests got involved with clapping and dancing as Pauline and Barrington made their way to their table.
The theme of the day was Ascot themed with bright and bold colours to match the mood of the day.
Evening entertainment was where the big party started, with three DJ’s at the decks keeping guests dancing.
Personal Touches
Barrington designed the table centerpieces and wedding stationery, while Pauline’s friend Joy Mason helped create the wedding bouquets.
‘There were a lot of hours spent creating and making them, but we enjoyed every moment of the experience’, Pauline says.
For all the people mentioned in the article suppliers and guests Barrington and Pauline wanted to say a big thank you to them. ‘We are truly grateful for all your love, and we respect you all massively.’

Future Plans
Currently, the happy couple are planning their honeymoon to Japan, where Barrington hopes to share his love for the country’s culture, bullet trains, temples, and beautiful cherry blossom trees with his new wife.
The couple’s advice for future couples? Don’t get stressed—enjoy the experience and take time to appreciate each moment together.
