We’re gearing up for Valentines Day, and if you and your partner love nothing better than a cosy film night, we’ve got you covered.
We appreciate there are lots of potential films to watch on V Day, but we’ve put together a list of our favourite for both the Romantic, and totally unromantic of film-loving couples out there.
Here are our Top 5 of each!
Top 5 to watch romantic films
When Harry Met Sally
If you haven’t seen this movie, then where have you been?! A film about Harry and Sally, two people who meet in a cab ride through New York; the film follows their lives over 10 years as they keep bumping into each other over and over again, finally becoming friends and raising the question ‘Can a man and a woman be friends, without sex getting in the way?’
Featuring Katherine Heigl as Jane; always the friend, never the bride, who always takes care of everyone but not herself. The plot of the film is the man she’s in love with, falls in love with her sister. Jane then gets stuck planning their wedding and hating every minute of it. Don’t worry though, there’s a happy ending!
Following along the lines of Love Actually in that it features an epic cast list including Bradley Cooper and Julia Roberts. This film follows the story of several people and their love lives, from a teenage girl wanting to lose her virginity, to a florist (Ashton Kutcher) who proposes to his girlfriend (Jessica Alba), who first accepts, then leaves a few hours later. We love films like this because they keep you guessing and its fun to see how each story links into the next one!
P.S. I Love You
Grab a box of tissues for this one! The film begins with the untimely death of Gerry (Gerard Butler), the husband of Holly (Hilary swank). The film follows Holly as she discovers letters written by Gerry in a bid to help ease her grief and help her to start her new life without him. Following twists and turns and highs and lows, this film is a real tear jerker but a goodie.
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
A little more different than the typical romantic films you may be used to, this one is a cult classic. Featuring Jim Carey and Kate Winslet as the would-be couple. Kate plays Clementine, who, after a failed relationship with Joel (played by Jim), decides to have the memory of him erased from her mind in an experimental procedure. Joel finds this out, and decides to undergo the same procedure in a bid to try and forget her too. This film reminds you what’s important and you may feel like you’re holding onto your loved one a little tighter by the end.
Top 5 totally unromantic Films to watch
This is as unromantic as you can get, and if you’re into Die Hard, you have a whole series of movies to watch! Featuring Bruce Willis being the typical action hero fighting against evil terrorists to save hostages from Nakatomi Plaza.
Blades of Glory
Let’s face it, any film with Will Ferrell in is going to be hilarious. And Blades of Glory does not disappoint. Featuring two rival figure skaters who, after brawling and being stripped of their medals and figure skating credentials, decide to team up to be able to skate again as a pair and compete.
For loves of gore and Ryan Reynolds as you’ve never seen him before. Deadpool gets rave reviews and it’s easy to see why. Wade Wilson, former special forces operative, is brutally tortured and disfigured after a rogue experiment transforms him into Deadpool. The film sees him search for the evil man who ruined his life, with tonnes of looks to camera and deadpan acting.
For fans of old school horror, The Exorcist is the perfect movie. Chronicling the story (loosely based on true events) of a girl possessed by the devil, a frightened mother and a priest determined to free her from the evil. Lots of spinning heads in this one!
A Clockwork Orange
If you’re a fan of the classics, then this is a crowd pleaser. Possibly one of the most unromantic films of all time, A Clockwork Orange centres on youth gangs, a horrific crime spree and psychosis. Perfect for a non-Valentines Day lover.
