Now, this might seem counter-intuitive, but in the last weeks running up to your wedding, there’s so many last minute jobs that need to be done, which cause a whole heap of stress and anxiety.
So it’s completely understandable why, on your wedding day, you feel frazzled and ‘just want to get married already’. You’ve been waiting for this day for a year or maybe more, and you want to feel your best on your wedding day.
But sometimes it’s easier said than done.
So here are a few important tips for self-care in the last week’s run up to your wedding day. (Thank me later)
Book a massage
I did this before my own wedding (the day before) and I would recommend it to anyone. Your mind is all over the place with guest numbers, the weather and everything else, so an hour of quiet relaxation with some fancy oils is just the ticket. Best part is all that built up tension in your back and shoulders will be quickly released and you’ll feel rejuvenated and refreshed!
Make skincare a priority
Stress can cause bad skin and spot breakouts, which you don’t need in your wedding photos. So, if you haven’t already established a skin care routine up to now, start moisturising every morning and every evening. You want to make sure your skin is at its optimum for your bridal makeup.

Stick to a bedtime routine
In this day and age, with mobile phones right next to you and screen time at an all time high, establishing a bedtime routine can be difficult. But in the run up to your wedding, you need all the beauty sleep you can get. So try to make your bedroom a place of tranquillity. Keep it tidy as it helps keep your mind clear and make sure the temperature is right.
TOP TIP: If you have a racing mind, keep a pad and pen handy on your bedside table, so if a last minute wedding preparation pops into your head, you can write it down and get it off your mind.
Talk to someone
If you’re really struggling with all the wedding planning, talk to someone. It could be your best friend or your mum, or even your other half. You need to get whats stressing you out, off your chest and sometimes knowing that someone else knows, makes you feel so much better. So a nice chat with a cuppa can be all your need to help calm your nerves.
Take light exercise
We don’t mean lifting weights like no tomorrow (unless that’s your daily routine), but a walk can help alleviate stress and clear your mind if you’re feeling under pressure so close to your wedding day. If you have a park nearby or a lake, take a walk round there as a walk in nature is wonderful for the mind and body.
Have ‘no wedding’ time
You’ve been so focussed all this time on making sure you have the perfect wedding, so it’s even more important to have some ‘no wedding’ time. Watch a film with your partner or take yourselves off for the day and just spend time together. You may have forgotten what its like to not plan a wedding, so simple things like going out for a meal can really make a difference.
Remember, self-care isn’t just about bubble baths and a glass of wine (though they are super fun); it’s about taking time for yourself to look after you. If that’s a walk outside to clear your mind, great. If it’s a coffee and a chat with a good friend, wonderful.
Just make sure you are as rested as you can be on the morning of your wedding day.
P.S. I went for a greasy breakfast sandwich with my best friend on the morning of my wedding. That was my self-care!
