Kaylan & Danielle
A Decade of Love: Kaylan and Danielle’s Wedding Story
In a beautiful celebration marking their 10-year anniversary, Kaylan and Danielle tied the knot at the elegant Thorpe Park Hotel and Spa in Leeds on Saturday, June 8th, 2024. Their story began in school, where friendship blossomed into romance, leading to a decade-long journey together before their special day.
Their engagement story took place in Amsterdam’s picturesque Vondel Park, though not quite as smoothly as Kaylan had planned. Danielle never thought he was going to do it, and was in total shock, it happened just before the couple’s 5 year anniversary,
‘Kaylan was really weird all day and started getting on my nerves’, Danielle remembers.
After walking round all day, Danielle went to go back to the hotel and Kaylan asked her to wait 10 more minutes but she’d had enough, and so he blurted out the proposal.
‘I thought he was joking at first but said yes straight away’, Danielle says.
The wedding planning didn’t start straight away for the pair as they had plans for a house. However as soon as they’d got the keys, the planning began!
The Planning
‘I’d say we were planning our wedding for around 2 years’, Danielle says.
The date of the wedding was of key importance as the pair wanted it to be on their 10 year anniversary of the day they met.
It was important for the couple to make the wedding day their own; ‘we both don’t like being the centre of attention so wanted an intimate ceremony, and the rest of it to be as fun as possible for everyone’, Danielle says.
Everything went really smoothly with the wedding planning, with all the suppliers helping contributing to the vision. Danielle remembers how she and Kaylan went to quite a few wedding fairs to get ideas and inspiration for their day, with a clear focus of a classy and minimalistic look, lending itself well to a summer wedding. The theme of the wedding day would feature a yellow and gold colour scheme, with bridesmaids in yellow gowns and grooms men with champagne ties to match.
When shopping for her wedding dress, Danielle had an issue as the boutique she’d planned to get her gown from unfortunately closed down, so instead she got her gown direct from the designer Sophia Tolli.
During their groomswear shopping experience, Danielle went with Kaylan to get himself suited and booted for the big day.
‘We went to the Skopes in Meadowhall; Chris, the manager greeted us, along with his assistants Jamie and Vaughn. It was the best experience ever; we had an idea of what we wanted, but not a clue about suits. They were so helpful and helped envision what we wanted. Kaylan wanted a different waistcoat to the best man; Skopes helped match the colours perfectly and really put him at ease. He felt confident enough to come out of the changing rooms and show everyone. They also offered lots of options with shoes and different materials and brought what we wanted to life.’
The morning of the wedding was good fun for Danielle; she spent it with her bridesmaids, mum and future mother in law. ‘Drinks were flowing, it was nice and chilled and there was no rushing about’, Danielle remembers.
It was a totally different story on the groom’s side; ‘Kaylan was really nervous; word from the best man said he was very quiet most of the morning,’ Danielle says.
The Ceremony
The Wedding ceremony finally arrived, with
all guests seated, waiting to see the happy couple exchange their vows. The ceremony featured a violinist whose music created the perfect atmosphere, continuing through to the drinks reception.
Despite a moment of panic just before walking down the aisle, Danielle was calmed by Kaylan’s beaming smile as she approached. A light-hearted moment occurred during their vows, when Danielle stumbled over her words, bringing laughter to the occasion.
Following the ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests enjoyed a drinks reception and canapes out in the courtyard as it was a wonderful sunny day.
The Reception
The reception began with a grand entrance to the Bridgerton theme tune, followed by excellent food and memorable speeches. The evening celebration kicked off in style, with the newlyweds entering wearing sunglasses while their guests waved glowsticks. Their first dance to Alicia Keys’ “If I Haven’t Got You” set the tone for a night of continuous dancing, made especially personal by the playlist featuring songs chosen by their guests on their invitations.
Danielle says, ‘It was exactly how I wanted, not one person was sat down, everyone was up dancing all night and there was such a variety of music. Even Kaylan’s grandad got out of his wheelchair and danced’.
Danielle recalled a brilliant moment when, at the end of the night, the DJ stopped,
‘Everyone kept singing with no music on as they weren’t ready for it to end’.
Danielle’s advice to future couples; ‘Stay as calm and collected as possible, work together, put what you both want in your day together, not just one side’, she went on to say, ‘It doesn’t need to be this all singing and dancing thing, sometimes the simplest things can make your wedding day look beautiful.’
