Continuing on with our Wedding Questions Answered Theme, this week we spoke to Michael from The Undercover Waiters Ltd, who gave his take on this current pandemic situation that he, and many other wedding suppliers find themselves in.
Michael also answers questions that engaged couples want to know about their special day…
Q: Firstly, could you just give me an idea of how the business has been since the pandemic began and what you guys have been doing to keep busy?
From the very early stages of the pandemic ,we have been in regular contact with our brides, grooms and corporate clients. The overwhelming feeling of panic initially set in with a lot of brides and grooms. My business has been a little mental to say the least with re-bookings and new business too. The office is very much open and along with dealing with new enquiries/bookings, re-booking cancelled weddings has also been a huge factor in the everyday running of The Undercover Waiters. This has kept me pretty busy over the past weeks as the volume of bookings needing to be moved has been huge, especially as we were about to embark on our busiest year to date.
We also performed a live set on our Facebook page which was a huge success for our local neighbours and our followers on social media.
Q: How have you been affected and what steps are you taking to secure the business?
We have been massively affected as has the whole world. All bookings that were in our diary from the end of March through until July have been moved to alternative dates. I have always encouraged all of our couples to re-book rather than cancel and this has been the case on 100% of the bookings to date which we are super grateful for.
Q: How have your couples been during this time?
Ahhhh my couples are amazing. When they book The Undercover Waiters, not only do they book a service but they book the people behind the business too. Each wedding has been treated with the respect that it deserves and I cannot thank my couples enough for working with us to work out the best solution for everyone.
My heart literally breaks when the email pings or phone rings with a distressed bride who is sadly needing to re-book her big day. Like I always say, its not only a year or 2 of planning; most women dream of their big day from a little girl and this indeed needs to be treated with compassion, empathy and respect, especially if the day they had been planning for needs to be a year in the future.
Q: Have you been able to accommodate their queries such as cancellations or date changes?
Now the next few questions are what our engaged couples have been asking wedding suppliers.
Questions from Couples
Q: Do I still have to pay you if my wedding is cancelled?
If our couples’ weddings are cancelled or re-booked then the deposit they originally paid to secure their date will be transferred over to the new date as well as any monies paid to date. There are no additional cost involved if booked directly through The Undercover Waiters.
Q: What if you’re not available on my new date? Is someone else available?
With a team of 22 singers, it is unlikely that the date will be full but what we are asking, is that if the performers originally booked on the wedding need to be different, that our couples trust me enough to know that all of my performers are highly skilled professional performers who will do a fantastic job at their big day.
Q: Will I get my money back if you can’t do my new date?
All refunds will be assessed on an individual basis.
Thanks for your time in chatting with me today Michael, do you have anything else to add?

“Dear Entertainment, Your Joy & Escapism will be needed more than before…… Get ready”
Huge Thanks goes to Michael for chatting with us during this tough time, and his final quote could not be more true. I have a feeling many of us will be looking for entertainment to make us laugh when this is all over and it is safe to do so.
Keep checking in with us here at the I Do Blog for more updates from other wedding suppliers in the industry and their advice to couples, as well as more updates from engaged couples who have had to change their wedding plans.
