ARE YOU A WEDDING SUPPLIER?
Lucy & Ian
Real Life Weddings

Newlywed couple Ian and Lucy, who live in Lindley with their German shorthaired Pointer Moose, tied the knot at St Mary the Virgin Church, followed by a magical wedding reception at Goldsborough Hall. Here’s their wedding story.

This happy couple met when Ian used to play cricket with Lucy’s uncle on a weekend. Lucy would come to watch with her dad, grandma and grandad and the pair would speak in passing but nothing more. Then it was at the annual cricket club dinner where Ian and Lucy finally struck up a match and ended up on the dancefloor together.

Some 9 years later and the engagement happened. The happy couple got engaged whilst holidaying in the Amalfi Coast in July 2019.

Ian remembers, ‘I’m not a nervous person or anxious in any way but I ended up clipping the wing mirror of our hire car!! Lucy must’ve known something was up. I proposed on a private beach the hotel had on the waterfront.’

The couple began their wedding planning soon after their engagement and started searching for the ideal venue. After visiting five different venues, Ian and Lucy settled on Goldsborough Hall as it stood out among the rest.

Lucy got her stunning gown from Dotty Bridal; a gown by designer Madison James.

When it came to the suits for Ian and his groomsmen, Joshua Adams Menswear in Cleckheaton, West Yorkshire were brilliant.

‘Stephanie, Lewis and Andy were amazing; they helped pick a suit style and colour which fit perfectly with our day. Measuring and tailoring a custom suit for Lucy’s dad couldn’t have been any easier. We highly recommend Joshua Adams for customer service, quality and care’, Ian says.

When asked if they had any issues throughout their wedding planning, the happy couple commented on how they had great suppliers around them.

‘Our wedding planner was amazing, our photographer Joel helped us through the day (it’s all an unknown and Joel’s an expert so made us feel really comfortable), Joshua Adams helped us through before the big day with our big focus to get Graeme (Lucy’s dad) a suit and they did an amazing job’, Ian says.

When the big day finally arrived on 8th April 2022, the traditional ceremony took place at St Mary the Virgin Church in Goldsborough, with 80 wedding guests attending the proceedings.

Ian must have been eager as he said ‘I Do’ before the vicar had finished their sentence!

Lucy remembers a particularly lovely moment when she was stood at the altar; it felt like it was only her and Ian there and everything else fell away.

Following the ceremony, the happy couple arrived at Goldsborough Hall for drinks and canapes, following by their wedding photos.

Ian and Lucy and their guests enjoyed a wedding breakfast in the orangery, with speeches from the father of the bride, the best man (Lucy’s uncle) and of course, the groom.

For the evening reception, they welcomed 40 additional guests to celebrate their nuptials. Their first dance was to ‘Conversations in the Dark’ by John Legend. This was followed by a wonderful father daughter dance to ‘English Rose’ by Paul Weller.

For the couple’s wedding entertainment, Jimbo Lynch, a live wedding band, played and got all the guests up dancing and partying late into the night.

As well as the perfect wedding day, Lucy also said a few big moments for her were seeing her dad as she came down the stairs in her wedding gown, being on the dancefloor all night with their guests and the first dance and father daughter dance.

We like to ask couples what advice they’d give other couples getting married, and Lucy says, ‘The biggest piece of advice I would give to other couples is to remember the day is about the two of you, enjoy every moment of it and laugh lots!’
